Case Study - Royal Bank of Scotland
Background
Transmedia has supplied Royal Bank of Scotland with secure storage and retrieval facilities for a number of years, including playing an instrumental role in the merger of the bank’s London and Edinburgh fiche archive in 2001. We have also migrated RBS’s entire VPC library - some 3 billion plus cheque images - to our Swansea site.
The Challenge
Our client wished to implement secure storage of 30 million microfiche images. To allow for differing data retention periods, the archive needed to be structured into a chronologically driven system, enabling ease of retrieval.
The Solution
Transfer to our storage facility was staged over a number of weekends to minimise business interruption, commencing with the least active data and progressing at an agreed time and volume.
The microfiche images are now stored in a temperature controlled environment of 18°C, with relative humidity maintained within a 20% to 40% range, together with frequent inspection for deterioration in compliance with British Standards.
The area housing Royal Bank of Scotland data is scanned by a dedicated CCTV system, in addition to 24-hour Dual Red Care and external CCTV cameras. Access is restricted to authorised personnel vetted by outside security consultants.
