Background
OCR is a leading UK awarding body. They provide qualifications which engage people of all ages and abilities at school, college, in work or through part-time learning programmes. OCR work with schools, colleges, workplaces and other institutions in the public and private sector to develop relevant A Level, GCSE and vocational qualifications.

The Challenge
Examination Syndicate - Examination Results
This project required us to digitise rolls of microfilm as well as a mixture of 16mm source microfiche and COM fiche and to make the collection searchable. This has been done in order to streamline the process when candidates contact the examination syndicate to request their results.

The material contained examination results for a large number of examination centres across the UK, with results covering a timeframe from 1946 to 1998.

The Solution
Transmedia used optical character recognition software on as much of the material as possible and manually indexed the candidates' names and centre numbers for material which could not be captured by that method.

A file structure was created which allowed the Oxford, Cambridge and RSA to quickly locate the year of the exam, the specific examination board and to search the records for a particular candidate.

The job had a tight 3 month deadline which Transmedia completed on time.
